60 years of asserting its leading position
Over nearly 60 years of construction and development (from 1967 to the present), the Federation of Geophysics has continuously matured, affirming its core role in basic research, assessment of deep-seated mineral resources, engineering geology, environmental geology, and effectively serving socio-economic development and national defense and security.
Currently, the Federation possesses a high-quality workforce of over 120 experienced officers, engineers, masters, and doctors, along with a system of 115 modern specialized pieces of equipment, capable of handling complex survey tasks on land, in the air, and at sea.
Strategic objective: To become the leading modern geophysics unit in the region.
During the meeting, representatives from the Geophysical Division reported on their strategic development direction, focusing on the following key pillars:
1. Digital Transformation & Artificial Intelligence (AI): Modernize technology by 100%, master digital data infrastructure, and apply AI in processing and analyzing geophysical data.
2. Expanding the scope of surveys: Intensifying the investigation of mineral resources hidden deep underground, conducting aerial geophysical surveys, and especially developing marine geophysics (searching for deep-sea minerals, surveying the foundations of renewable energy/offshore wind power plants, offshore infrastructure, environmental protection, and asserting maritime sovereignty).
3. Serving the green economy: Enhancing the application of geophysics in early warning of natural disasters, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
4. Developing high-quality human resources: Viewing people as the root of sustainable development.

Directive from the Director of the Vietnam Geological and Mineral Resources Department
Speaking at the meeting, the Director acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and achievements that generations of officials, employees, and workers of the Federation of Geophysics have made over the past nearly 60 years. The Director emphasized the importance of geophysical technology in the context of the geological sector facing new demands and opportunities.
Excerpt from the Director’s directive:
“The Geophysical Division needs to maximize its traditions and core competencies, continuing to affirm its position as a pioneering and leading force in the investigation and exploration of deep-seated mineral resources and marine resources. In the coming period, the Department will continue to create all favorable conditions for the Federation to lead and participate in key projects, while prioritizing investment in strengthening its capacity with modern specialized equipment and software.
Furthermore, the Federation must accelerate digital transformation, proactively expand scientific research topics, and strengthen international cooperation to train and access advanced technologies, striving to become a leading geophysics research and application unit in the region. In addition, the Federation needs to develop a detailed plan for each stage, such as 2025-2030; 2030-2035; and a vision to 2045 and beyond for development.”
Recommendations and proposed solutions
To successfully achieve the set goals, the Federation requested the Department to continue supporting and facilitating the opening of new tasks and projects; investing in synchronized and modern geophysical equipment; and promoting international cooperation programs to improve the professional skills of the technical staff.
The meeting concluded in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and high determination, opening a new, breakthrough and modern development path for the Federation of Geophysics.
